Support our School through Emergency Response Training

Our school community will benefit immeasurably by having staff and parents who know how to respond in emergency situations.  This knowledge is sometimes technical but largely organizational. Good organization can make all the difference between a good, helpful response and a chaotic, dangerous one. To accomplish that, we need people who have taken the time to understand the basic skills and process of responding in an emergency- before the emergency.  This is simple, basic instruction that make a significant difference in your ability to be helpful.  We are not expecting nurse or fire fighter level abilities.  Community Emergency Response Training is a free 8 meeting course offered by our local fire departments.  It is awesome!  You will leave with a greater understanding about how to prepare for and respond to an emergency, regardless of where you are when it happens. 

To encourage trained disaster support of our school we are going to be raffling off training incentives.  Two levels of support teams exist for our school.

Carriage Crest CERT Team

If you are willing and able to join the Carriage Crest CERT team, we are raffling off customized deluxe 2 person, 72 hour kits.  The high quality kits often sell for $80 or more. 

To be eligible for the CERT team raffle:

• You need to have completed the CERT training course in the last 12 months.

• You need to plan to be a support to the school in an emergency and realize you are joining the team.

• You need to believe you are going to be available to support the school in a disaster for at least the next 2 years. (ie, you are not moving next year)

• You need to be fingerprinted at Carriage Crest, if not already.

AND EITHER

• You also need to be generally available or home or school at least part time

• You need to live within reasonable walking distance to the school (like 2 miles)

OR

• You are a teacher or staff member at Carriage Crest at the school part time or more

Carriage Crest CERT Extended Support

If you would still like to offer your help but are less likely to be available in an emergency, we’d still love to have your help.  This includes our parents who might generally work more than part time or live quite a ways away or have other emergency response priorities. In a significant disaster you *might* be able to help but if so, probably be significantly delayed.  We are raffling off an assortment of training incentives for this as well.

To be eligible for the CERT extended support raffle:

• You need to have completed the CERT training course in the last 12 months. 

• You need to have a desire to be a support to the school in an emergency.

• You need to be fingerprinted at Carriage Crest, if not already.

While this is non-binding, you are promising to plan on being available to help the school and working toward that goal. 

Ideal candidates are those who already support the school as staff or volunteers.  Other parents or community members who are often home during the day and could reach the school on foot are also encouraged to participate.

Raffles will be held 2 weeks after the last class is finished.  You can submit you raffle registration any time during your CERT class.  I will just verify that you completed the training.  Download the CERT raffle form, fill it out and email it to Rochelle Long or snail mail it to me.  Copies of this form will also be available in the office.
